Find Your Utility
Massachusetts is served by 4 investor-owned utilities that serve 304 communities and 40 municipal utilities that serve part or all of 50 communities. The Massachusetts interconnection standards are used only by the investor owned utilities.
If you are unsure which utility serves your area, you can use this map of Massachusetts electric service territories. (For those with natural gas projects, a map of gas LCD service territories is also available.) If you are served by a municipal utility, you will need to contact them directly to determine what their interconnection process is. A comprehensive list of municipal utility contacts can be found on the Mass. Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) website.
Interconnection applications must be requested from and submitted to your local utility. While the interconnection processes are based on statewide standards, each utility has its own document outlining its process. You can refer directly to their tariff for detailed information at the Interconnection Tariffs page.
The current distributed generation contacts for each utility are as follows. If a contact appears to be out of date, please email us and we will make updates as necessary. If you need to reach the right personnel at your utility, you may also contact Ghebre Daniel at the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy (DTE).
