Distributed Generation Interconnection Rules
Tariff Documents with Interconnection Rules for Each Utility Company
Each of the utility tariffs is based on the uniform statewide standards approved by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), and is largely identical to the statewide standards. However, each utility's tariff should be used as the source for formal documents for all projects in that utility territory, including application forms and standard contract terms. The tariffs also include charts showing the time frames for different steps in the interconnection process, and potential fees.
The versions presented here are intended to be reasonably current, but users are responsible for checking with the appropriate utility contact person or the DPU to see if more recent rules may apply. To find out which utility serves your area, view the utility contacts page.

Context: DTE 02-38 Investigation into Distributed Generation
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU), formerly the Department of Telecommunications and Energy (DTE), is the implementing body for electric utility regulation in Massachusetts. The DTE opened an investigation into distributed generation in 2002 and established the Massachusetts Distributed Generation Collaborative as a stakeholder group to develop uniform interconnection standards for the state. In February 2004, the DTE established interim interconnection standards, and Order 02-38-D, released in February 2007, established revised interconnection standards that are to be used by each utility in Massachusetts:
- February 16, 2007 -- D.T.E. 02-38-D: ORDER ON REVISED MODEL DG INTERCONNECTION STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES TARIFF
Some errors may have been found in the above files and corrected in newer revisions, and additional changes could be made in the future, as noted on the Disclaimer page, so please consult utility personnel and the DPU Enhanced Fileroom offers current and historical information on the DPU's proceedings on distributed generation.
To access all proceedings on the interconnection standards, enter "02-38" for the DTE's investigation into distributed generation. Additional information is available at the web page on Regulatory Proceedings on DG.
