Standard Process

Basic Requirements

All projects not eligible for or failing the simplified, simplified spot network, or expedited reviews must go through the standard review process. This includes all projects located on area networks, though the general finding on such interconnections is that the project cannot be interconnected and an alternative connection must be developed.

The standard review includes several levels of review that are much more detailed than the screens used in the other three processes. All projects in the standard review process must go through an initial review, usually involving a meeting with the utility, and an impact study to determine the level of system modifications that are needed to interconnect the facility. If system modifications are determined to be substantial, the project will also need to go through a detailed study.

This review process requires more customer involvement at each stage to determine whether to continue pursuing a project in light of anticipated costs. At any point, the customer may elect to withdraw their application, modify their system design, and resubmit their application for a new review.

Review Process

The standard review and approval process, timeframes, and fees are as follows:

Additional Information

For more detail on the steps of this process, please review the uniform interconnection standards. For required forms, please visit the application and approval forms page.

Some projects over 1 MW and all projects over 5 MW must go through the ISO-NE review process which is separate from the interconnection process. It must be noted that the timeframe for the standard review pauses while these studies are completed; therefore, timeframes may be significantly different for projects going through the ISO-NE process.
