Description: In this project, students hold a model UN committee meeting and discuss the topics of climate change and global warming.  The committees include:

  • Government Representative of Developed Nations
  • Environmental Impact Specialists
  • Climate Expert Scientists
  • Government Representatives of Newly Industrialized and Industrializing Nations

Each committee will present their position on a piece of legislation which would cut future greenhouse gas emissions by 20%.   Using a series of questions related to the role of the committee, the group of individuals within in each committee is required to research the issues they are facing with regards to the legislation in question.

There are recommended Internet sources, as well as peer and self-evaluations for student use at the conclusion of the model UN.  On this particular site, for the final presentation of their research, students are asked to complete a "hyperstudio". Alternatives such as PowerPoint may be substituted due to advances and access to technology.
