“Windspirations”
Twelve Months of Windy Art Projects and Information for the Classroom
This fun, educational 2005 calendar was created by Kidspace at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams, with funding from MTC's Renewable Energy Trust. Kidspace is a contemporary art gallery and art-making space for children, teachers, and families housed in the MASS MoCA complex. From March to September 2004, Kidspace presented "Earth, Wind, and Desire: Wind Farm" an exhibition featuring a sea of metallic, wood and feathered kinetic sculpture, and large photos of wind turbines.
Hundreds of children visited the gallery, making all kinds of "windy" art and learning about wind energy. This calendar features art made by schoolchildren from throughout Massachusetts, and includes simple instructions for recreating these projects in your classroom. Most of the projects are suitable for primary and middle school classes. The calendar also provides information about wind and wind energy as well as resources for learning more about wind in the arts, literature and science.
Sample month activities:
- January: kinetic delights - mobiles
- June: anemometer
- October: fishy wind socks
