2005 Teacher Workshops

The following workshops were offered free to Massachusetts teachers from May to October, 2005.

Bridgewater State

Two workshops were offered to teachers, grades 3-8, interested in wind and solar power. The workshops consisted of two days of content focused on solar and wind technology and a third field activity day where participants analyzed and observed renewable energy technology and presented their findings. At the end of the workshops, teachers had the necessary tools to translate key renewable energy concepts into a classroom curriculum. Teachers received materials and supplies for their classroom and in addition received a stipend to purchase supplies for their renewable energy curriculum.

KidWind

Two workshops were held for educators interested in learning the basics of wind energy and applying concepts of the technology in their classroom. The two-day workshops primarily targeted middle and high school science and technology teachers, and explored the technology of wind turbines. Participants built small lab-bench wind turbines, toured local wind farms, and researched additional wind farm sites. Through hands-on activities and guest speakers, teachers were able to apply concepts they had learned into their classroom curriculum and communicate the science behind the wind turbines to their students.

Cape and Island Self Reliance Corporation

Professionals provided a two-day workshop for teachers, grades 6-12, interested in solar and wind power. Teachers gained a basic understanding of renewable energy through applications of solar and wind technology. Hands-on activities afforded teachers the opportunity to learn how renewable energy is developed and the significant role renewable energy can play. Participating teachers received lesson plans and materials for their classrooms.
