Profiles of Fuel Cell Installations in Massachusetts

MTC has developed profiles of the fuel cell installations in Massachusetts as part of our effort to make sound information available to the public regarding emerging distributed generation technologies. An installations map was also developed to support this effort.

Seven fuel cell projects have been profiled, including five phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) installations, one proton exchange membrane (PEMFC) demonstration project, and a system-reliability research project, which is using two PAFC units to simulate a distributed generation environment. Profiles can be accessed via the links below.

Fuel Cell Installations in Massachusetts

Each installation profile includes a summary table, a project overview, a description of site-specific challenges, and discussions of technical support availability, project economics, lessons learned, and future plans for distributed generation. R&D project profiles include a discussion of the technical objectives and next steps in the technology development process.

An eighth project, supported though MTC’s Fuel Cell Initiative, is planned for installation in the fall of 2002 by the US Coast Guard, which will demonstrate a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) system at its facilities in Bourne, MA. This system will be profiled after it has been installed.
